What's even harder to track down than the Limited Edition Bronzed Hammered Brass? How about this unique prototype, owned by Sami Kizilbash! Sami was the Mapex/Black Panther Product Manager and Artist Relations Director in Canada from 2005 to 2009 and I'll let him tell the story...
The one I thought you might like is my limited limited edition Bronzed Hammered Brass BPBZ455HLB snare. When KHS first presented the new BP Bronzed Hammered Brass snare to my team and I (I am gonna guess it was at NAMM '05), they showed us this prototype with black chrome hardware (Serial No 061). They said the final version would have custom brushed bronze hardware, but the hardware wasn't ready in time for NAMM. I felt the black hardware complemented the black chrome throw-off and butt-end, and really just looked so cool overall We had just won their "distributor of the year award" and they (reluctantly) let me keep their prototype 😀 As far as I know, it's the only one they ever made!
How about that for a story then eh? And it does make me wonder if that lack of brushed bronze hardware availability has anything to do with the black chrome throw-off and butt-end on the final production model. The mystery deepens.
Anyway, can't thank Sami enough for getting in touch, and providing the photos and back story to this unique model. I'm screamingly jealous and I should expect you are too!
