Overview
Just when you think you've captured all the models from the 2010-2019 era, along comes this rarity. I spotted this in July 2022 in one of the photos Ariel de Leon sent me of his extensive (and I do mean extensive!) collection of Black Panthers. After doing a double-take and querying it with Ariel, I managed to find a video from the Drum Centre of Portsmouth (below) that shows it in action.
I put the photo up in the Facebook group, and Morgan Deveney sent me a link to a contemporary review by Geoff Nicholls on MusicRadar that explains it was a special order option*. Given that there are just about zero photos of this size available anywhere, not many people seem to have chosen the option, so it's a definite rarity.
The catalogue reference is an educated guess, since this deeper model doesn't appear in any catalogue I can find.
Note that Ariel has swapped the original Sonic Saver hoops for Die Casts on his example.
*The article says that you could order it as a 14"x6" but it's definitely a 6.5".
Photos of this rarity are courtesy of Ariel de Leon and Bruce Murphy. Thanks a million guys!!
