Overview
Now this is a snare in a category of its own - literally. It's the only acrylic Black Panther known to exist!!
Found by Matt Kimble, it was on sale by a former member of Mapex Taiwan's R&D department, and is one of only a handful they made for testing. Apparently they weren't happy with the performance and were worried about stress cracks as the snare aged which, to be fair, is a perfectly justified position given that not uncommon issue with acrylic snares at the time.
At the time of writing (7 Nov 2026) Matt is still waiting for the snare to arrive so details of shell thickness etc. are understandably thin on the ground. But what a unique shell to get hold of - we are all very jealous Matt. More details as and when they become available.
