Overview
This material could be viewed as the natural equivalent to aluminum. It is fat and meaty at all tunings.
The mid range is obvious but not dominant and can be heard dissolving into the low end.
The shell is attack and bottom oriented. Different than aluminum, birch's dry characteristics have less decay and more lingering sustain.
The photos of this rare 1998 model took ages to track down, but I eventually found these excellent shots in March 2022 on a Brazilian selling site called Mercado Livre from a seller called Lushenriqueabillacarboniju. Unfortunately there was no way to contact him, since you need a recognised Brazilian method of ID to set up an account, which obviously I don't have.
Then, by sheer conincidence, later the same night I found the snare advertised on Facebook Marketplace. I sent the seller a message and he got back to me! His name is Luis Henrique Carboni from Sao Paulo, and he was more than happy to share his photos. He did query the shell thickness however, as he was sure it's thicker than the 8mm stated in the 1997 catalogue (the only one it's in) so he's going to check for me.
Don't you just love technology sometimes!
Muito obrigado Luis!!
