Overview
This one-off was made for the great Brazilian drummer Aquiles Priester, and used by him on several recordings and videos.
It's signed by Aquiles himself and is currently owned by Mazão Souza from São Paulo, who has quite a collection of Black Panthers. Mazão sent me the shots in March 2022 but the snare was stuck in "provenance hell" (desculpe Mazão!) for a few months. In early June however, I found a photo on Aquiles' Facebook page from 2012, clearly showing this snare among the ones he used in the studio (Estúdio Mr. Som in São Paulo). It's obviously the same snare - the shell pattern matches perfectly.
So there you go - a Brazilian unicorn. Or is "Capelobo" more apt? I'm not well versed in Brazilian folklore, but that seems a pretty "metal" creature so it does fit the backstory of the snare!
