Overview
This model was a custom build for the (very lucky) customer who also ordered the 14"x5.5" Natural maple (linked below).
The theme for this piccolo snare was "Black and Dark" and although the sound is naturally bright, the customer also wanted to be able to tune it low for brush work. Shimano San says that it was a matter of trial and error with the bearing edge and snare bed to get it right. With shallow snares it's difficult to change the inherent resonance characteristics of the drum as the air moves quickly. In typical self-effacing Japanese fashion, he then says he "doesn't have enough experience yet".
Only two ever built. As always, it's a Shimano custom build, so I'm counting it as a Black Panther even though the badge says "Orion Classic Series".

お客様の特注品です。テーマはブラックでダークなルックス。鳴りはブライトかつ明るい表情。よってピッコロを選択しました。ローピッチチューニングも時々され、ブラシにも使いたいそうです。なかなかニーズが多いのですが頑張って作成しました。保険で２台作成しました。ベアリングエッジをそれぞれ異なるアール、トップ位置、スナッピーベッドの深さ等々試行錯誤ですが、、、結局それぞれ表情は異なりますが、鳴りの方向は叩いてる本人しか分からない程度の差のようです。浅いシェルのレゾナンスは空気の動きが速い為、特徴を変えるのは難しいと感じた作品です。まだまだ経験値が足りません。
