What do you do when you've collected 6 impossible snares before breakfast? How about tracking down this rejected prototype for the Mapex Japan / Beyond Shimano 20th Anniversary Masquerade snare!
Ignore the 10/50 serial as I doubt 50 were ever made Both the design and the shell were rejected for the anniversary snare, as wood was popular at the time and Shimano San thought the overall design was "too flashy". His exact words at the time were "What happens when an uncle designs for young people. Like an old person* wearing thick makeup" but now he wonders if actually it's ok. I think so - I know I'd buy one!
Later update: having contacted Shimano San, apparently although only one was made and initially rejected, there were additional orders later so actually 5-6 units were produced. Just goes to show you that, as Shimano San told me, drummers have different tastes at different ages so it's difficult to narrow things down to one design for everyone. Very true.
*Yes I know it doesn't say that exactly, but I get where he's coming from and probably so do you.

Mapex 20th Anniversaryの時の試作品です。
デザインも却下、シェルもスティールは却下されたものです。デザインはあまりにも派手！ 当時はウッド全盛！と言う事で却下してしまいましたが、今見るとこれはこれでも、、、まあまあかも。今こそ若者にもっと叩いて欲しい！と言う願望がありますが、このスネアのコスメはいかがでしようか？ おじさんが若者向きのデザインをするとこうなる。 まさしく ”婆Ｏ～の厚化粧” である。Later Update:
こちらは1台のみの作成でしたが。でもこのモデルも人気が後から追加で注文があり5台～６台作成して完売しました。ドラマーの年齢差で好みが分かれるデザインですから、、、、マーケットの年齢、ジェネレーションは１つのデザインに絞る事は難しいと勉強できました。
